University of Richmond

Experiential Learning

Four walls can’t contain an entire education. That’s why, at Richmond, most students extend their educations by participating in experiential learning opportunities. They’re the chance to take what you’ve learned in the classroom and apply it to the real world, either via research, an internship or studying abroad.

Internships

Located in a thriving capital city and less than two hours south of Washington, D.C., the University of Richmond is well situated for students interested in securing engaging internship opportunities. Jewish studies minors can volunteer or intern with the Virginia Holocaust Museum and at any one of seven synagogues in the Richmond area (three Orthodox, two Conservative, two Reform). In Washington, D.C., political action committees like the Joint Action Committee for Political Affairs and the National PAC advocate at the national level for Jewish issues and the State of Israel. Students interested in pursuing opportunities like these should visit the Career Development Center early in their academic careers to identify possible internships.

Study Abroad

Studying abroad will always enhance your education. While the University does not have any partner programs with universities in Israel, the Office of International Education is dedicated to working with each student to design an individualized international study plan that meets their needs and interests. Jewish studies programs are available at partner institutions throughout Europe, with a particularly notable program in Prague.
