University of Richmond

Resources

A number of special resources enrich students’ experiences as Jewish studies minors at Richmond.

Relationship with VCU’s Center for Judaic Studies
The University of Richmond is privileged to have a strong relationship with Virginia Commonwealth University’s Center for Judaic Studies. Like Richmond’s program, it emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to studying the Jewish religion and culture. Because of the sheer size of the university, however, the Center is able to offer a wider variety of courses each semester, ranging from introductory courses to courses dealing specifically with the Bible, Jewish history, the Holocaust, the American Jewish experience and Modern Jewish thought. Because of a reciprocal relationship, Jewish studies minors at Richmond are able to travel to VCU to take courses they might otherwise not be able to take. Buses run regularly between the two campuses.

A maximum of two VCU courses may be applied to the Jewish studies minor and students must seek permission of the program coordinator in advance of registering for any courses.

National Center for the Hebrew Language
For students who want to learn Hebrew, the National Center for the Hebrew Language can be an excellent resource. Their Web site features an online dictionary, transliteration guides, study and teaching tools and links to other education resources.
